Why Greek Was The Best Show Ever

So Netflix are removing Greek, and that sucks. So here are some lessons I learnt from Greek:

1) Love is not Simple
Okay, so Cappie and Casey were soulmates, but that didn't mean that Evan and Max weren't both totally ending worthy options for Casey. My point being, love and life, are not that easy to figure out, and sometimes things turn to shit. But hopefully, you'll do okay no matter what.

2) Failure isn't Always the End of the World
When Rusty does badly on a test, he totally freaks out that he's going to fail out of his super brainy polymer science course. But he picks up the pieces and invents a self healing wire and basically gets his shit together. As long as you tackle hurdles as best you can, failure isn't final.

3) Best Friends Trump Everything
Ashleigh and Casey, and Rusty and Calvin had their ups and down, but when push came to shove, they stood by each other.

4) Different People Can Still Get Along
So Dale is a conservative, Southern Baptist engineer, and Calvin is a gay athlete (and the best character on the show), and at first they didn't get on that well. But in the end, they overcame their differences, because people who are totally different can still respect each other and get along. Who knew?!

5) It's Okay to Feel a Little Lost
Cappie is the famous lost boy, flitting between majors and having no plans to leave Kappa Tau at any point ever (unless it was for Casey... oh the feels). But he never stressed about it, and following his heart did pretty well for him. And it will for you.

6) College is for Learning, Don't Lose Sight of That
When Rusty cheats on a test because he didn't learn the material, he says that he lost sight of what college is about. And yeah, college is all about the fun and parties, but not only that. College is, as our wonderful Spitter says, the last bastion for education, and if you forget that, you really miss out.

So there you have it! A few of the lessons I learned from Greek! I'm definitely going to have to get my hands on box set!

Em Reviews: Fury

Set in the throes of World War 2, Fury is by no means an easy going film. But this does not mean it is a bad film. Far from it; Fury is breathtaking, it is captivating and it is groundbreaking. Easily the best cinema experience I have had all year, I will be outraged if Brad Pitt and Logan Lerman aren't nominated for Oscars.

One thing that it is important to note, is that Fury, unlike so many war films,is never violent for the sake of being violent; each death is significant in some way; the way it is in war, each life matters, you may not know the story, but someone does. Not wanting to give any spoilers, I'll be brief; there will be moments in this film so poignant that you hold your breath and don't realise until you exhale. Yes, there were incredibly graphic scenes, that had me audibly gasp (sorry to anyone sat near me), but this served only to add to the authenticity of the film.

Emotionally, Fury is destructive. In so many cases, you will cry, then laugh, then gasp in horror within the space of a minute, and the best part it is; the manipulation of  your emotions is so effortless.

The characters themselves are human; not always noble, not always kind, not always good, but always, always courageous and brave, even in the face of death. The growth of the characters, notably Norman, is plausible and a key focus to the film; you believe in them, you pity them, sometimes hate them, but always feel as though they are real. The casting department are miracle workers, I must say, particularly so in the choice of Lerman as Norman, with his wide eyed youth, and ability to portray the entire spectrum of emotions so convincingly, the impact of war on the young protagonist throughout the film was unmissabley profound, and never forced.

Why I Hate Onesies

Hello There,

Are you a member of team fluffy hell? In theory, onesies are great. Warm, cosy, you can feel like a giant toddler. In practice however, lets not go there.

First of all, they are impractical. Seriously. How do you pee? Like if you wake up and you've gotta go really badly, and it's like January at 2am, you don't want to be removing the warmness from your upper body. So, that sucks, but you're not going to pee yourself, are you? Are you? No. You are not.

Not to mention, they are way too warm to sleep in. Like, you wake up and feel like you are in hell. A fluffy, body encasing hell. And if they're footless ones, then you have cold feet and a warm body. And no, onesie enthusiasts, it does not balance out. It does not balance out at all.

Also, and there is no escaping this, if you wear a onesie, you look stupid. If you wear one outside the house, you look twice as stupid. You might have paid £100 for that fancy ass onesie, but it looks like you got it for £2.50 in one of those cheap little stores on the high street that also have t shirts with misspelled words on them. 'Buetiful' hoodie anybody?

The worst thing though? Is that every autumn, the urge to try the lonely one, hanging up the back of the wardrobe, next to the equally ill thought out jumpsuit, is overwhelming and you wake up, boiling hot, needing to pee, with cold feet looking like an idiot.

No offense to anyone currently wearing a onesie.

Love ya!

Self Love #1

Hello There,

Sometimes, doubt gets the best of us all. And that is okay, to sit for a moment, or an hour, to think 'maybe I'm not good enough.' It's okay to feel that way. It's okay to think it, as long as you do not truly believe it.

You are special. You are a unique, incredible individual. Your genetic line has travelled for billions of years, from before humans existed, culminating in you. You are the best that nature has to offer. And  you should accept it.

There is only one of you. Only you has your sequence of genes, your mind, your experiences, your emotions. Only you. And biologically speaking, no one else can be you; the closest even your children can become is half of what you are. And that's alright too, because they are just as amazing, just as unique as you.

If you are afraid, be reassured in the knowledge that out there, someone is looking out for you, who is thinking of you. Even if it's just a girl sitting in her room, with messy hair and a laptop. You are never alone.

Until next time,
Love,
Em

In Defence of Cats

Hello There,

Believe it or not, I am 100% a cat person. Seriously. I don't hate dogs. I just don't see why anyone with a the full ticket would choose a dog over a cat. And here, is why.

  1. Cats are sparing with their affection. Which is why it means so much more when a furry baby decides that YOU are their new favourite living cushion. Dogs like any old person walking on past. You deserve better than that. You deserve the selective and deep bond of cat to owner. Or human to owner.
  2. Cats are classy. Dogs on the other hand... yeah, no. Do you see a cat licking it's butt in front of all and sundry? N- well yes. But do you see them sniffing other cats' butts? Well, also, yes. But do they do those things whilst maintaining an air of sophistication and elegance? You bet your last ball of yarn they do.
  3. Cats are actually much nicer than you think. They get an unfair rap, Have you seen that cat saving a baby from a dog? It's adorable. Have you seen a dog saving a baby from a cat? That never happened. Cats win.
  4. Cat paws. Cat. Paws. CAT. PAWS.
  5. Cat smell. Before the angel that was my baby Minkle passed (RIP baby girl) she had the best smell ever. Warm, and safe, and downright adorable. Dogs smell of, well, dogs smell of dogs. And that is not a smell I like.
Let me know what you think!

Monday starts with Em... The best of Monday night TV

Hello There,

So, I don't know about those of you who live in the far corners of the globe, but in the UK, TV definitely gets best on a Monday. I like to think that it's a sort of, 'sorry for the mundanity of the dull week ahead of you, but hey, have some great TV, my treat!'.

What TV is this, you ask?
Well, mid season on E4 right now is 'The 100', and oh my goodness, this is crazy good, so I suggest you pick up a box set if you've missed it. Its essential premise is that Earth was made uninhabitable by nuclear war, so everyone lives on an arc... but time is running out, so 100 of the arc's prisoners are sent to Earth... and shit goes down.
And this week, 'Under The Dome' returned for season 2 on channel 5, and it's awesome. Like seriously awesome. Basically a small town is trapped, under a dome, you may have guessed. It's based on the Stephen King novel, but updated to a more modern setting.

This was a short one, but in future I'll write more, maybe even more in depth reviews on these shows.

Love,

Beauty Products I like

Hello There,

I'm kind of uncertain where I am going with this blog, but I feel like talking about stuff I like is a good place to begin.

So here are my favourite beauty products!

1) Maybelline Gel Eyeliner
So all of you that use eyeliner, will know that liquid can be fiddly but looks more intense, and pencil is often not as long lasting. However, I find that gel liner is a lot easier to use than liquid, and lasts longer than pencil, as well as having a much better colour pay off. Although if you do mess it up, let it dry before you wipe it off, or it creates a giant mess!

2) Soap and Glory Thick and Fast Mascara
All I have to say about this is that it works miracles on my short little eyelashes! The brush really catches every single lash which is really useful!

3) Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation
I find that this has really good coverage, if it is a little dark for my super pale skin. It creates a really smooth look, without looking too fake, which is always a bonus. I definitely recommend this if you want a foundation that isn't expensive but works well.

4) Collection Blush Palette
To be perfectly honest, I just like pink blush because it adds a little bit of colour to my face, but this one is brilliant. It doesn't come out looking too strong, or too subtle and the shades compliment one another really well!

5) Nyx Jumbo Stick Eyeshadow Pencil
As well as being super amazing, NYX are cruelty free, which I do think is great. This eyeshadow pencil is amazing, it's really pigmented and gives such a gorgeous dramatic look!

Well that's all really, so thanks for reading!
